Meet Councilmember Desrie Campbell
My Story
Councilmember Desrie Campbell, has served on the Fremont City Council since 2022 representing District 2. She grew up in Washington D.C. Fremont is not just where Desrie lives—it is where she built her family, serves her community, and dedicates her career to improving opportunities for every resident. Councilmember Campbell raised her four sons in Fremont, where she put down deep roots. Today, she is the proud grandmother of five grandchildren, all connect to Fremont schools and the community she has spent decades serving.
For more than three decades, Councilmember Campbell has devoted her career to public service—from working in Washington, D.C. to serving families throughout Fremont through education, nonprofit leadership and local government.

Desrie believes local government should be accessible, transparent, and focused on solving everyday problems. Her priorities include safe neighborhoods, strong schools, responsible growth, affordable housing and ensuring every resident feels heard.
Councilmember Campbell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a master’s degree in Public Administration. She has also served Fremont as a Human Relations Commissioner, and former chair of the Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women. After being elected to the Fremont City Council in 2022, she was appointed to serve on the League of California Cities Community Services Policy Committee where she advocates for reducing homelessness and increasing the supply of affordable housing while retaining local decision-making. In 2023 she was appointed to the League of California Cities Governance, Transparency, and Labor Relations Committee where she advocated for issues related to transparency, technology (open data), healthcare, elections, and political reform. Additionally, the committee oversees pensions and workers compensation reform, as well as other labor-related issues.
Councilmember Campbell believes Fremont’s best days are still ahead. She remains committed to listening first, leading with integrity, and working collaboratively to build a city where every family has the opportunity to thrive.
